“From bulk solids to the silo”
The university course “From bulk solids to the silo” will take place in Brunswick/Germany from 21.–22.02.2011. The main topics will focus on silos, i.e. from the characterization of bulk solids via the process-engineering design of the silo up to the silo statics. When discharging powders and bulk solids from silos, feed hoppers, containers etc. major problems may occur, e.g. flow failures, segregation, vibrations or discontinuous flows (flushing). So as to avoid these problems, solutions have to be found taking into account the properties of the bulk solids. Based on this situation, the...

Based on this situation, the course, under the direction of Prof. Dr. Dietmar Schulze, will deal with the problems occurring again and again in connection with the development, manufacture, handling and storage of powders and bulk solids. Topics will be the rheological behaviour of bulk solids, the design and possibilities of configuration of silos, stress in silos, devices and auxiliary equipment for discharge, proportioning and the new European silo standard EN1991-4. Further lecturers will be Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dietmar Schulze, Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences, who will also be responsible for the organization of the event, Dipl.-Ing. Harald Heinrici (Schwedes + Schulze Schüttguttechnik GmbH), Dr.-Ing. Martin Kaldenhoff (HHW + Partner, Bauingenieure) and, of course, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jörg Schwedes will also again take part.
