Reactive power and harmonics in electric industrial and distribution networks increase the operating costs, on the one hand. In case of an arcing fault, these systems control short-circuit current values of up to 40 kA according to the staff safety required. For this reason, it was impossible so far to use compact plants in these branches resulting in high capital spending for the construction of specially protected operating rooms. With the POCOS system (Fig.) compensation systems are now available combining the high demands on compact plant design and arcing fault tested design up to 40 kA according to IAC. Consequently, they can be integrated cost-effectively into existing load-centre substations.
