With a zero-waste initiative, the Berlin Senate Administration is now sending out a clear signal for high-quality gypsum recycling. Since the beginning of the year, it is not only in Berlin that plasterboard – provided it is free of adhesions and mineral impurities – may no longer be disposed of in landfill sites. Holger Ortleb, Managing Director of the Federal Association of the Gypsum Industry and the Research Association of the Gypsum Industry: “Gypsum is the only natural mineral material that can be returned to its original state as a raw or building material after processing and use as a building material by recycling and subsequent calcination. A closed ‚gypsum to gypsum‘ cycle is entirely conceivable.”
