VDI directive for air pollution abatement
Directive for electrostatic precipitators (ESPs), process and waste gases, VDI 3678, sheet 1 (draft), deals with the separation of solid and liquid particles from process or waste gases by means of ESPs. Under the principles of particle separation by means of electrical forces, there is no particle size which cannot be detected and separated due to its small dimensions (e. g. PM10 and also PM2.5). As opposed to many other waste gas cleaning processes, ESPs are distinguished by a low pressure drop and can even be used with very high waste gas temperatures (as a rule up to 500 °C). The publisher of the directives is the Commission for Air Pollution Prevention in VDI and DIN – the Standards Committee KRDL.
